Where did Sickle Cell anaemia originate, and when and how did it come about?

Sickle Cell disease originated in Africa, where it is still prevalent today. Information from the gene leads us to know that SCD originated from 5 mutations, 4 of which came from the continent of Africa. These mutations led to the genes that carry sickle cell.
